Tanning industry in india has been directed by the Pollution Control Authority to establish Zero Liquid DIscharge systems - requiring all tannery clusters having common effluent treatment facilities to go for Reverse Osmosis to recover clean water and to evaporate the reject and obtain solid salt (a mixture of chloride, sulphate and carbonate) as the final output. The issue now faced by the industry is how to dispose this salt. Is it possible to recover different salts from the mixed reject cost effectively? Any other solution for disposal of this salt?
